Montague Harbour on Galiano

Day two meant heading west across the island, up and over a big hill on our bikes, to Montague Harbour.  The downhill was the fun part of course, and our reward was a tasty lunch on the deck of the marina cafe, looking out at the boats.
Then we explored the road to the Montague Harbour park and campground - on the way we saw this sign:
How cool would it be to say "turn at the purple bicycle"
Once we'd followed a trail from one side of the campground to the other, we came out at the lagoon, and onto a long shell beach.  We watched a baby seal swimming close to shore, but when he saw us he headed further down the beach, and came ashore for a bit - didn't have a chance to get a photo.

Looking from the beach across the lagoon to the boats at anchor

The next morning we arrived at the ferry terminal early, so had time to stop at the bakery, which opens at 6 a.m., for a coffee and snack.  What a great getaway!  We only saw a small part of this beautiful island, and would love to go back again!

Their cinnamon buns are the best!

Trip to Galiano Island

We rode our bikes onto the ferry for our short two day, two night visit to Galiano Island, one of the Southern Gulf Islands.  The ferry only takes an hour, so we were there by about 10:15 in the morning.
We explored the tiny village, then rode on quiet country roads to Bellhouse Park, right on the water, facing Active Pass.

Both big and small ferries go right by this park

Nearby there was a huge eagle's nest, and Brad took lots of photos:

The ground was covered with these small purple flowers:

After lunch in the village, we rode our bikes north on the main road, then east along smaller and smaller roads to find our B&B, right on the water.  After a swim in the ocean (cold) and a soak in the hot tub (just the right temperature!) we looked outside and saw three deer in the yard:
